Roulette Rules
Roulette is a game of luck; you win or lose depending on the wager(s) you place prior to the spin. A winning number is chosen when a small ball rolled in one direction is released onto a wheel spinning in the opposite direction. The ball bounces around inside the wheel and the winning number is determined when it finally comes to rest in a slot on the wheel. The thrill of the game is in wagering on the outcome and there are many ways to bet in Roulette. Here are the different wagers that can be made:
Inside Bets
(a bet made on numbers - these numbers are made on the inside part of the table layout):
One number Bets - there are 37 or 38 (depending on the type of wheel used, American or European) different ways to wager that a single number will win. Winning bets pay 35:1.
Two number Bets - there are 62 different ways to wager that one of two adjacent numbers will win. Winning bets pay 17:1.
Three number Bets - there are 15 different ways to wager that one of a group of three numbers will win. Winning bets pay 11:1.
Four number Bets - there are 22 different ways to wager that one in a square of four numbers will win. Winning bets pay 8:1.
Five number Bets - there is only one way to wager that the number 00, 0, 1, 2 or 3 will win. Winning bets pay 6:1.
Six number Bets - there are 11 different ways to wager that one of the numbers on two rows of three numbers will win. Winning bets pay 5:1.
Outside Bets
(bets made on groups of numbers - these bets are made on an area bordering the numbers on the table layout):
Dozens Bets - there are 3 different ways to wager that the winning number will be one of a group of 12. There are three groups of 12 numbers to chose from; 1 to 12, 13 to 24 and 25 to 36. Winning bets pay 2:1.
Odd or Even Bets - there are 2 different ways to wager that the winning number will be an even or odd number. If the numbers 0 or 00 win this bet loses. Winning bets pay 1:1.
Red or Black Bets - there are 2 ways to wager that the winning number will be red or black (0 and 00 are green if they win this bet loses). Winning bets pay 1:1.
Column Bets - there are 3 ways to wager that the winning number will be in a column of 12 numbers. Winning bets pay 2:1.
